On The Horizon

I’m trying to get the table runner pattern finished up this weekend.  I had it tested and had great feedback and just needed to make some minor fixes to grammar and the such.  I’m going through it once more this weekend and then it will go up for sale in the shop.

I am talking at the Portland Modern Quilt Guild meeting this coming Thursday about English Paper Piecing (EPP) again.  I’ve been busy working on a few samples with pieces other than hexagons to give the talk a little different direction than a few years ago.  I’m sure those that are brand new, or yet to attempt it, would love to know that EPP’ing other shapes is just as easy as hexagons.  I’ll be putting up a new tutorial/pattern for that next week, probably after the meeting so you can make your own blocks.

I’ve also been working on the previously mentioned new quilt top pattern.  The top is all done, I just need to quilt it and then get the pattern written up. That one will be a few weeks away.   I will need a few testers if anyone would be interested.  It’s a pretty easy pattern, but involves cutting at 60 degree angles.  So I’d say for the “advanced beginner”.  Email me if you’re interested and I’ll send it out once I’m finished.  What I look for in testing is to have a block made and the pattern read through for clarity.  I don’t think the full quilt top needs to be made, but I like to know that the instructions for the “block” are easy to follow and that completing the top is easily understood on reading through the pattern. {And we’re good to go on testers!  Thanks everyone for the positive response!} After I’d drawn up and made this new top I had a little laugh at seeing all the same colors come together in other spots as well as last week seeing a similar design on a paper product.  I guess it’s a “popular” theme right now.  So I want to hurry and get it released!

And it just wouldn’t be a post these days without “fluffy butt”.  His new thing is to jump into my chair when I get up so that I am “forced” to give him loves before I sit down again.  Cat’s just don’t get any better than this one.

  1. I want to try EPP. Hexagons are the most common, do you think they are also the easiest? Or would you recommend a different shape?

    1. I think that probably depends on the person somewhat, but I do think hexagons are a good place to start because of their gradual angles. It makes it a good place to start learning how to wrap fabric around and baste it in place with minimal frustration. In my opinion. :)

  2. Have just returned here to update myself on your Fabric Scrap Basket tutorial again (I have made many of them to give as gifts - such an easy pattern) and read back a few posts. Quite shocked that someone would write such a nasty comment to you. So I would like to say how much I enjoy your blog, your tutorials and quilts are lovely, and I love your comments about your funny cats! From someone on the other side of the world! - Deb

  3. I'm looking forward to your pattern, my table really needs a pick me up! And I love your cat. I had a wonderful guy for 18 years who reminds me very much of yours, they really are special, so I am living vicariously through you until I find that perfect cat again.

  6. I was so afraid of hexies and anything to do with paper pieces until last night. Thanks you for your presentation! I made two hexies last night and am now already addicted!
