Sewing Summit + Giveaways

I thought today would be a good day to talk about my experience at Sewing Summit.  I’m going to sum it all up with one word: Awesome!  Considering I was sicker than a dog, and had to cancel flying in on Thursday, and got on the plane Friday morning afraid I wouldn’t make it, I think that’s a pretty great descriptive word for it all.  I made it to the hotel with just one class to go before mine but managed to perk up a bit before having to talk.  And luckily, I didn’t completely lose my voice until after my class the next day.  Good luck all around.  I thought these “curves” seen from my flight to Salt Lake were a good omen.

I got to meet so many people who have become my friends over the years, Anna and Jeni among them.  The time goes so quickly and I didn’t get to spend near enough time with either of them.  I left my camera in my hotel room for most of the trip, so I have almost zero photos to share!  I blame it on not feeling well.  I actually didn’t make it to many classes due to my late arrival and the crummy flu bug I was fighting while there.  Add on top of that my altitude sickness and it was a less than stellar way to feel for a much anticipated weekend.

I absolutely loved teaching my curves class.  It was wonderful and everyone picked up on sewing curves so quickly.  I was so proud of everyone's results.  I have been seeing mini’s pop up around the “sphere” and really enjoy seeing everyone's fabric combinations.  I know a lot of students were worried about what fabrics to pick, as I didn’t reveal the mini we were making until the first class on Friday, but everyone did fantastic!  I think that in itself was a lesson to be learned from for most of them.  I snagged this photo from Faith’s Photostream on Flickr.  I got to sit next to Faith a few times over the weekend and talk with her.  I’m so happy that I did, she is so sweet and easy to talk to and if you know me you know I love to talk. 

I got some goodies while there as well. My friend Terri (we’ve known each other since middle school) made me this awesome fabric bracelet.  (Terri had the sweetest things to say about my teaching in her post yesterday.)

And one of my students, Tracey of Swell Sewing, gifted me this great needle keeper.  It will for sure be put to good use.  I especially loved the little pocket for the needle threader in the back.  How clever!
