I ♥ Pens!

_MG_6355-Edit
I’ve said it many times, I have a bit of a pen fetish.  I just love pens!  There is nothing better than having  a pen that does just what you need it to.  Sometimes I love a fat tip that the ink just flows through as I write, other times I like an extra fine point that gives me all the little details I need.  A good pencil is important too.  While in college, I had a lot of technical drawing to do and came to love my 0.3mm pencils and eraser ‘pens’.  I was able to cram a ton of notes on the page, but also get all the little detailed drawings of rocks and strata I needed.
So I thought I’d share some of my favorites pens with you.  In the photo is all of their names and below is info and links to each of them.  All except the Faber-Castell Pitt Artist brush tip markers can be found at Jet Pens.  I like the brush tip markers for filling in my inked drawings of diagrams for quilt drawings.  It helps me keep the ‘fabrics’ separate.  Those I originally bought at Art Media, but they became Dick Blick in the New Year.  If you live locally (Portland, OR area), you really need to check out their new location in the Pearl on Glisan and 11th.  It’s a beautiful store and has everything at great prices.  I loved Art Media, but I love having a Dick Blick in town.
You should be able to click on the photo and see a bigger version if you are having trouble reading the small type.  I had a lot to cram in a small space.  I am going to try and make this a CSS click-able photo, but I have a lot going on, so that will take time as I have to teach myself how still.

Tombow Mono Knock 3.8 Eraser - Green Body – I love this style of eraser.  Because of it’s small size, and ability to have a little at a time out, I can erase little details and only what I need to erase.  They are a must!
Pilot S3 Drafting Pencil - 0.3 mm – My favorite size for a pencil, the 0.3mm lead lets me do the tinest details when needed.  I love this pencil for both drawing and writing.  It has a nice feel when in use.  I like to use HB lead.
Ohto Tasche Ceramic Roller Ball Pen - 0.5 mm - Blue Body – I use this pen for everyday writing.  It has a nice fine tip on it and allows me to print as small as I need.  It has a very nice weight to it and feels like a very expensive pen.  My husband loves it and has threatened to steal it for work.  So now I’m thinking I should have bought pink instead of blue!
Pilot Envelope Address Writing Gel Ink Pen - Extra Fine – I really ♥ this pen.  Extra fine is a bit of a streatch as I find the tip to write more like a 1.0mm than an extra fine (which I consider to be 0.3mm and below).  But I love this pen for writing.  It is extra inky and writes very smooth.  Just be sure to put the cap back on as I find the tip gets a little dry when left open for too long.
Uni-ball Signo (DX) UM-151 Gel Ink Pen - 0.28 mm – Black – Currently my favorite pen.  I use this for writing and drawing.  It’s especially wonderful for extra fine detail.  I actually have this in several colors now!  I even bought a second black one so I can have one at my computer and in the sewing room.
Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Body - Strawberry Red and Kuretake Zig Letter Pen CocoIro Pen Refill - Super Fine – Black – You buy this pen in two pieces, this way you get to choose the pen casing color and the writing color.  I also have a white body that I love, but it has gone missing.  I used this pen on this project and had great results.  It’s a brush tip, but is very hard and keeps it’s fine point nicely, yet gives you more a brush effect if you tilt it slightly and write more on the side.  I mostly use this pen for drawing, but it works great for writing too.
Marvy 4300 LePen Porous Point Marker Pen - Fine Point (Light Blue, Light Green) – These are relatively new to my pen box.  I love how they write and the detail I can achieve with them.  I’d like to have all the colors!
Copic Multiliner SP Black Ink Marker Pen - 0.2 mm – White it' says it’s a 0.2mm tip, it writes more like a 0.5 – 0.7mm tip to me.  I like the felt tip on it and use it for thicker lines when drawing.  This is relatively new to my pen box as well, as it was recently recommended.  I really like these pens and would like to see about some finer tips.
Ohto Graphic Liner Needle Point Drawing Pen - Pigment Ink - 0.2 mm - Black Ink – I recently saw someone on Instragram using this pen and talk highly about it, so went ahead and added it to my cart.  Again, its somewhat new to the pen box, but I really like the tip on this and how the ink flows.  It’s a bit thicker of a tip, not something I’d consider 0.2mm compared to how my other 0.2mm write, but I still enjoy using this pen for drawing.  And you can’t beat the price either!
Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens Brush Nib – Great price, great pen!  I love using these for coloring in my line drawings of my quilt instructions and the such.  They are really great for helping me keep ‘fabrics’ seperated when I’m getting ideas.  The brush tip allows me to put fine detail or shading in, but I can also fill things in quickly when using more pressure or tilting it to the side.  There are so many colors, I wish I had them all!
Copic atyou Spica Micro Glass Glitter Marker Pen - Melon Green / Turquoise Blue – These are my new favorite ‘markers’!  I LOVE coloring in with these!  Especially my fine doodles with my quilting designs or when doing lettering.  They have just the slightest glitter to them, but flow beautifully.  The tip is nice and hard and allows me to get the color just where I need it.  Again, wish I had every color.  I will for sure be ordering more!  If you must choose between coloring pens, pick these!

Just as an FYI, this post is in no way sponsored, nor do I get any kind of kickback from these links.  I just want to share with you the things I love and how you can find them.  I have never been disappointed with buying from either of these retailers, so feel confident in recommending them.

  3. Oh, my! Being a stationery buff myself, I LOVE this post.

Though...I never got gel pens and don't get me started on rollerballs either.

It's interesting to read which characteristics of pens make you tick. I respond to different things in my pens and pencils too. (of course)
